This fascinating
book, edited by Clementine authorities Art Shiver and Tom Whitehead,
was published in 2005, the year of the 50th anniversary of Clementine
Hunter's African House Murals. It is a detailed and delightful
story of how the murals were created and of the people who were
there when it all happened. The book contains chapters by many
prominent experts on the history of Melrose Plantation and Clementine
Hunter and is illustrated with dozens of color photographs of
the murals and of the artist. Art Shiver and Tom Whitehead have
magnificently preserved for posterity the story of this landmark
event in the history of American folk art.
